Dr. Addis Tamire Woldemariam is the Acting Country Director and Senior Director for Health Systems Strengthening at Amref Health Africa–Ethiopia, bringing over 20 years of leadership experience as a Medical Doctor and Public Health expert. He also serves as a Visiting Scientist at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
A Harvard-trained Deliverologist and transformation specialist, Dr. Addis has supported governments across health, education, economic development, and tax reform. He is widely recognized as a leading expert in Ethiopian health policy and global health reform. His previous leadership roles include Director General and Chief of Staff at the Ethiopian Ministry of Health and Head of the Ethiopian Tax Transformation Office.
Dr. Addis also served as a Senior Advisor at McKinsey & Company, where he led major transformation initiatives across Ethiopia’s healthcare, public, and social sectors. He has contributed as Expert Faculty to the Harvard Ministerial Leadership Program, mentoring African ministers and senior officials on reform implementation and delivery.
A published author with 14 peer-reviewed articles in leading journals, including The Lancet, and co-author of two books, Dr. Addis holds a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Gondar and a Master of Public Health from the University of South Africa. He continues to advance health systems reform and public health policy from Addis Ababa, where he resides with his family.
