Our Team

Andrew Leather is Professor of Global Health and Surgery at King’s College London. He was a Consultant Surgeon at King’s College Hospital (1996-2015), holding various posts including Clinical Director for Surgery. He is the founder and current Director of King’s Global Health Partnerships, which brings the academic, health and international development sectors together to work with partners in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone, Somaliland, the Gambia, and Zambia. These global health partnerships support the strengthening of health systems in Africa and the UK.

He is engaged in global surgery policy and co-chaired the Lancet Commission in Global Surgery. His research on health system strengthening has a broad scope across access to, and quality of, care for those with surgical disease in low resource settings. He has played a leading role in the development of global health education at the King's, launching short courses, an intercalated BSc, and an MSc programme. He is the Programme Director of the MSc in Global Health.
