Dr. Lisanu Taddesse Gebremariam is the Technical Director of the Integrated Health System Strengthening (iHSS) Project for Amref Health Africa in Ethiopia. This project collaborates with the Ministry of Health (MoH) and Regional Health Bureaus (RHBs) through grant from the Gates Foundation to design and implement mechanisms for strengthening health systems, particularly for primary health care (PHC), by integrating key health system strengthening (HSS) pillars.
Dr. Lisanu has expertise in priority setting, capacity building, and translating evidence into policy and programming. He began his career in 2004 as a medical doctor and lecturer at Mekelle University. He has served as the director of the HaSET Maternal and Child Health (MCH) research program and held various positions within Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health, where he coordinated the Ministerial Delivery Unit and advised the Minister of Health on quality and equitable health services. Additionally, he has worked with different international implementing partner organizations to advance the Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health-Nutrition (RMNCH-N) quality and equity agenda. Dr. Lisanu holds an MD from the University of Gondar, completed his specialty postgraduate studies in pediatrics and child health at Addis Ababa University College of Health Sciences, and earned an MPH from the Addis Continental Institute of Public Health.
